Microneedling Skin Rejuvenation in Nashville at RG Plastic Surgery

Microneedling is chemical-free, minimally invasive, and delivers beautiful results. It uses your body’s own healing process to correct many skin issues and common signs of aging. The process involves rolling a wand or pen affixed with mini-needles across the skin to create tiny wounds. These wounds are minuscule and only skin-deep, but your body responds instantly by sending in healing factors that boost skin strength, radiance, and health. Microneedling can also be used in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures or topical treatments to increase their effectiveness.

Microneedling is Best Suited to Treat:

  • Wrinkles
  • Scars
  • Photo-aged skin
  • Skin texture irregularities
  • Stretch marks
  • Skin laxity

Microneeding: Controlled Micro-Trauma for Collagen Renewal

Our team at RG Plastic Surgery is excited to offer microneedling to the Nashville, TN area. This all-natural, highly effective skin rejuvenation treatment works by creating tiny, controlled micro-injuries to the skin to trigger your body’s collagen production process. Your skin will be firmer, healthier, and more youthful with a series of treatments. The secret is your own body’s wound repair process, an extraordinary series of events that includes inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling:

  • Inflammation: As the microneedles puncture the skin, your immune system immediately starts disinfecting the holes, removing debris, increasing blood flow, and creating brand-new tissue
  • Proliferation: The wounds — that is, the tiny holes — are “filled in” and rebuilt with new cells and new collagen and elastin. A new network of blood vessels is also created.
  • Remodeling: The wounds (tiny holes) are reconstructed with new dermal tissues and blood vessels. The “old” collagen is replaced with new, stronger collagen.

Benefits of Microneedling

  • Reduces lines and wrinkles: When the micro-injuries are created, collagen is boosted, which fights the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Your body’s wound-healing process also stimulates new skin cells, decreasing the visibility of finer lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles.
  • Treats scars: Microneedling triggers the formation of new collagen and elastin, so it’s also effective in treating acne and scars on the skin. However, microneedling cannot address raised scars.
  • Improves sun damage: Microneedling reduces the appearance of sun damage, especially hyperpigmentation and age spots. If your skin looks blotchy and brownish from too much sun exposure, microneedling can even out your tone.
  • Fights the signs of aging: With age, the skin loses elasticity, making it appear looser. Aging skin may also look dull and lose its healthy glow. Microneedling can improve the skin’s structure to fight sagging. In addition, in just 48 hours following a microneedling session, your skin will experience a fresh radiance.
  • Shrinks large pores: Despite the fact that microneedling involves creating holes in your skin, it doesn’t increase the size of your pores. In fact, it helps your pores appear much smaller. When the collagen around your pores is stimulated, the skin around each pore plumps up, making the pore itself almost disappear.
  • Improves effectiveness of topical skincare products: Post-microneedling is the prime time to apply anti-aging treatments, moisturizers, and other topical treatments that boost skin health and appearance. The micro-holes created during the treatment receive creams, serums, and gels more readily and deliver them more deeply into the dermis than when applied regularly.
  • Fights stretch marks: Microneedling works just about anywhere on your body and can even be effective in reducing the appearance of stretch marks that show up after periods of rapid growth, such as during pregnancy.
  • Reduces rosacea: The ruddiness and skin thickening of rosacea can be addressed with microneedling. If you suffer from this skin condition, you experience a hastened breakdown of collagen. Microneedling stimulates the growth of collagen to offset and replace this breakdown so your skin looks less inflamed and irritated.
  • Improves acne: Because of how effective microneedling makes your skincare products, it helps topical acne treatments work more deeply.
  • Fewer side effects than lasers or aggressive chemical peels: Microneedling’s benefits are similar to laser therapy and chemical peels, but don’t require the long downtime that those do. You will have a glowing complexion 24-72 hours after a microneedling session, but with laser treatments your recovery may take 3-10 days. As for medium or intensive chemical peels, your skin will need 14-21 days to bounce back.

What’s the Difference Between Microneedling and RF Microneedling?

At RG Plastic Surgery, we offer both microneedling and RF microneedling. If you’re not sure what the difference is, we will explain.

Although RF microneedling uses a microneedling device, it’s actually more of a radiofrequency treatment, with the microneedles working as a delivery system for the radiofrequency energy.

This delivery of radiofrequency into the skin is a very effective technique for stimulating new collagen and elastin, which makes the skin more firm, plump, and youthful — and lessens the visibility of lines and wrinkles. In addition, RF microneedling has the power to even out skin tone because the radiofrequency represses the activity of melanin. At RG Plastic Surgery, we utilize the Lutronic® Genius™ RF microneedling device.

I cannot rave about RG Plastic surgery enough.

I have now been seeing them for 4 years, and I can’t imagine going anywhere else. They are so detailed and thorough with anything I need. I always leave there knowing they have my best interest in mind. From facials to age-preventing procedures, the practice is amazing with everything they do! I highly recommend them!” — Katie M.

    Microneedling Procedure Details

Before the actual microneedling begins, your skin will be numbed to help keep you as comfortable as possible. This takes about 30 minutes.

Once your skin is numbed, the microneedling device will be passed over the treatment area. As the device goes over the skin, the tiny needles create micro-injuries, which kick-starts the skin regeneration process.

Blood circulates to the area, enriching it with healing growth factors. Collagen and elastin are also are repaired and restored.

Microneedling feels like a small vibration and can be a little uncomfortable, although everyone has a different pain threshold. While most patients find the procedure very manageable, we encourage you to let us know if you’re in pain, as we can adjust the needle depth.

The amount of time that each microneedling procedure takes depends on the size of the treatment area and your personal aesthetic goals.

Over time and with a series of treatments, you will notice the area getting tighter, healthier, and more youthful-looking. Microneedling is often used in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures or topical medications to enhance results.

    Managing Discomfort

Although most patients find microneedling to be a relatively painless and very tolerable procedure, there is some level of discomfort involved. To minimize any pain you might experience, we recommend the following.

    Before Microneedling

    • Refrain from using any products on your skin that increase sensitivity (retinoids, exfoliants, etc.)
    • Refrain from laser treatments or sun exposure, as these may damage skin and increase sensitivity
    • Avoid shaving, waxing, or using depilatory cream, as using these can increase in skin sensitivity
    • Prepare your skin with vitamins A and C to help collagen production

    After Microneedling

    • Follow all the aftercare directions we provide you with
    • Apply any prescribed or recommended topical creams and/or lotions
    • Don’t wash your face with anything other than lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser for 48-72 hours
    • Don’t apply makeup for at least 48-72 hours — and when you do, only use clean makeup brushes
    • Avoid direct sunlight for 48-72 hours. If you must go outside, be sure to apply a good sunscreen
    • Don’t use aggressive cleansers or exfoliants during recovery, as they can irritate your skin

    Downtime and Results

Although healing from microneedling typically only takes 24 hours, it may take up to 2-3 days depending on the extent of your treatment. Although you’ll feel physically well to immediately return to work or school, most patients wait until the redness fades from their skin to go out in public. This can take anywhere from 24-48 hours.

You can apply makeup 24 hours after microneedling; however, the longer you can wait to apply makeup, the better.

Although a series of microneedling treatments is required to get the best results, a 4-6 week waiting period is typically required between microneedling procedures. A microneedling series of treatments, along with an effective home skincare product routine, will prolong the results and increase effectiveness.
