Rhinoplasty
at RG Plastic Surgery

Rhinoplasty, more commonly called a “nose job”, is one of the most common plastic surgeries performed. The nose is a very prominent facial feature, so when it’s crooked, overly large, or has a bump, it can throw your entire facial appearance off balance. Dr. Ramirez Gavidia offers both surgical and non-surgical rhinoplasty to address the size, shape, or imperfections of the nose to deliver a more attractive and improved appearance.

What Can Rhinoplasty Address?

  • Size of the nose in relation to the rest of the face
  • Size and position of the nostrils
  • Width of the nose at the bridge
  • A crooked nose
  • A nasal bump on the bridge
  • Weak nasal projection
  • Depressions or bumps on the bridge of the nose
  • A nasal tip that is bulbous, hooked, upturned, or drooping
  • Large, wide, or upturned nostrils
  • Nasal asymmetry

How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia or deep sedation. This procedure can be done with either an open or closed technique:

Open Rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty requires an incision to be made on the outside of the nose. This incision will be made along the columella, where it usually heals very well. Depending on the specific goals of your individual procedure, he will manipulate the tissues and cartilage of the nose to create a more pleasing shape and appearance. In cases where a deviated septum is being corrected, symmetry is created between the nasal passages and obstructing tissue is removed to improve breathing.

Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty does not require incisions to be created on the outside of the nose. Instead, the incisions are made on the inside lining of the nose. Closed rhinoplasty requires less time, less swelling, and a faster recovery time than open rhinoplasty.

A Holistic Approach with Dr. Ramirez Gavidia

Dr. Ramirez Gavidia is well known and widely respected for his holistic approach to cosmetic procedures. When he is working with a patient, instead of simply focusing on one area his goal is to achieve a more comprehensive and balanced result. He does this by considering the patient’s full appearance — not just one area — and combining procedures to achieve overall improvement. The result is consistency and harmonious rejuvenation.

Functional Rhinoplasty

In cases where asymmetrical tissue impairs breathing problems or for deviated septum, a rhinoplasty has the added medical benefit of correcting this condition and opening up the nasal passages. This is known as “functional rhinoplasty” and can greatly improve comfort and quality of life.

What is Rhinoplasty Recovery Like?

Your new nasal contours may be bandaged to protect against post-surgical swelling. Any discomfort is typically easily controlled through prescription medication and aftercare instructions provided to you by Dr. Ramirez Gavidia.

In the first few days following rhinoplasty, the swelling may make you feel congested and may make it difficult to breathe from your nose. This will improve over the next week as the swelling goes down. We recommend keeping your head elevated as much as you can during recovery to help with swelling.

What Results Can I Expect?

After all post-surgical swelling and bruising have subsided, which can take up to 6-12 months to completely subside. Most rhinoplasty patients have their final results within half a year. Follow-up appointments may be scheduled at our Nashville office to monitor your healing process and ensure that you’re happy with your new nasal contours, but any adjustments will have to wait until the swelling has completely gone away.

Liquid Rhinoplasty: A Non-Surgical Option

Surgery isn’t always needed to correct aesthetic concerns of the nose. Dr. Ramirez Gavidia is excited to offer patients in Nashville the five-minute nose job, also known as “liquid rhinoplasty”. This is a non-surgical rhinoplasty that uses dermal fillers to alter the shape of the nose. This is an excellent option for patients who have isolated deformities of their nose such as a dorsal hump or minor asymmetries. It can also be a great option for patients who have had rhinoplasty in the past and now want to correct minor irregularities post-operatively.

What Can be Improved with Liquid Rhinoplasty?

You will be very impressed with what a non-surgical rhinoplasty can do, and with much less downtime than traditional rhinoplasty.

  • Bump on nasal bridge
  • Low nasal bridge
  • Asymmetry
  • Scars
  • Pinched nasal tip
  • Drooping nasal tip
  • Crooked nose

“I came to Dr. Ramirez Gavidia looking for rhinoplasty.

I was unhappy with my side profile because of its curve, and I wanted a more defined tip. Dr. Ramirez Gavidia genuinely cares about his patients and is a master at his craft. I have unquestionably found my new facial specialist.” — Oscar L.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Treatment Details

Liquid rhinoplasty has many benefits — one being how quick and convenient the treatments are. After your skin has been cleansed, the injections will begin. Dermal filler will be injected beneath the skin of your nose where volume is needed, or where the nose needs to be re-shaped. The filler can camouflage bumps, asymmetry, issues with the tip, and more.

Another benefit to non-surgical rhinoplasty is that is can be reversed if, for any reason, you’re unhappy with the results. No filler is permanent, and if the fillers used are hyaluronic acid based, they can be dissolved.

Downtime, Side Effects, and What to Avoid

Recovery from a liquid rhinoplasty is much more minimal than with surgery. You may have some redness, swelling, bruising, itching, or soreness for a day or so, but you’ll be able to go right back to your normal life after treatment.  We recommend avoiding the following for a few days:

  • Wearing makeup
  • Touching or rubbing the nose and areas that were injected
  • Applying topical products to the nose
  • Extreme heat
  • Exercise
  • Wearing glasses
  • Skin treatments (for two weeks)

Results

Liquid rhinoplasty results will last anywhere from six months to two years, depending on the kind of filler that is used. You can undergo maintenance sessions to maintain your results.
