Labiaplasty: Restoring Your Body, Restoring Yourself

Many women may feel unhappy, self-conscious, or physically uncomfortable with their labia, which can result in feeling a loss of femininity and lowered self-image. Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces enlarged or elongated labia minora (inner vaginal lips) and/or the labia majora (outer vaginal lips) to improve both the appearance and comfort of the vagina.

Benefits of Labiaplasty

  • Removes excess labia skin to achieve an improved appearance
  • Allows the ability to comfortably perform activities such as exercising, riding horses or bikes, etc.
  • Removes discomfort and embarrassment for women who want to wear tight clothing
  • Stops pain and irritation during sexual intercourse that is caused by excess labia skin
  • Improves hygiene and health
  • Boosts self-image and confidence

Dr. Ramirez Gavidia’s Approach: Holistic Rejuvenation

One of the things that Dr. Ramirez Gavidia’s patients appreciate the most about him is his holistic approach to aesthetics. Instead of just focusing on one area, he takes a step back and considers you as a whole to ensure a comprehensive outcome. This means he will combine procedures to address other areas of concern to you. The result is a more balanced, consistent appearance.

What to Expect During Labiaplasty

A labiaplasty is an outpatient surgery that can be performed with the patient under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. While the specific details will vary slightly from patient to patient, there are generally two techniques:

The Trim/Edge Technique

This is the most widely used labiaplasty technique. Dr. Ramirez Gavidia will remove and suture the excess protruding edges of the labia minora, making it symmetrical with the labia majora.

The Wedge Technique

The wedge technique involves a V-shaped wedge being removed from both sides of the labia minora. This method achieves a natural look for the vagina by preserving the wrinkled edges.

Recovery and Results

Most patients take about one week off of work to recover from labiaplasty. To help with discomfort, we recommend pain relievers, sitz baths, and cold compresses. You will need to refrain from using tampons and having sexual intercourse for 3-6 weeks following your procedure to ensure proper healing. Also avoid long showers and rubbing the treated area after washing.

(Gently patting the area dry is fine.) Exercising, bike riding, running, etc. will need to be put on hold until Dr. Ramirez Gavidia clears you to continue. In addition, do not wear any tight clothing around the vaginal area during recovery.

Noticeable improvement can be seen as the swelling subsides.

Ideal Candidates for Labiaplasty

Why do some women have enlarged labia? It could be because of childbirth, age, sexual activities, or simple genetics. No matter what the cause, there is a solution. Those who make the best candidates for this procedure are those who:

  • Are unhappy with the appearance of their labia
  • Have pain or discomfort because of their labia during certain activities
  • Avoid sexual intimacy because of their labia
  • Experience itching, irritation, or hygiene problems due to their labia
  • Avoid wearing tight-fitting garments due to the size or shape of their labia
