What is Microfat Grafting?

Also referred to as a fat transfer procedure, microfat grafting uses the patient’s own body fat to add volume, contour, and shape to an area of the body. It can be used to add volume to both small, precise areas like the under eye hollows and temples, and large areas like the breast and butt. Microfat grafting can be performed on its own, or it can be done in conjunction with a breast augmentation, Brazilian butt lift, blepharoplasty, or facelift procedure.

People love this procedure because it allows them to treat two areas at once. The area that fat is extracted from, also known as the donor site, is made slimmer, tighter, and leaner. Meanwhile, the area that fat is injected into, also known as the target area, is infused with extra volume and definition.

How does it work?

The first step of a microfat graft is extraction. During this portion of the procedure, fat is removed from the donor site using a liposuction cannula, or a thin, tube-like syringe. After this fat has been extracted it is prepared and purified. Once the purification process is complete, the fat is carefully injected back into the treatment area. Both the donor site and treatment area are numbed before extracting or injecting the fat.

Following treatment, patients can return to their normal daily activities. While swelling and bruising at the site of injection are expected, these side effects typically subside within a few days of receiving treatment. Recovery time can vary depending on the extent of treatment and the specific area being treated.
