What is Liposuction?

Liposuction sometimes referred to as “lipo”,  is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures available today, according to ASPS over 250,000 cases were performed in the USA alone in 2018. This procedure’s popularity may point to a telling truth about how difficult sculpting your ideal body through diet and exercise alone can be. Some people can stick faithfully to a diet and exercise plan for years without being able to achieve their aesthetic goals. Liposuction is an excellent way to remove excess fat deposits while decreasing the chance of future weight gain and improving the body’s overall proportions.

Anesthesia is administered before the procedure begins. Depending on the size of the area being treated, this can be either local or general anesthesia. During the procedure, the tumescent solution (anesthetic and adrenaline) is infiltrated under the skin,  then the fat is  “melted”  using VASER Hi-Def®. The fat is then removed gently using Micro-Air®  which allows the body to be sculpted. Following the procedure, the healing process is relatively quick. In fact, most patients can return to their normal daily activities within a few days of having surgery.

What are the benefits of Liposuction?

Liposuction offers the patients that undergo it a wide variety of benefits. This procedure can be used to address excess fat on nearly any area of the body, including the:

Additionally, the results of liposuction can last significantly longer than traditional weight loss results. During traditional weight loss, the size of fat cells increases and decreases, but the overall number of fat cells stays the same. Because of this, it’s easy to gain and regain fat fairly quickly. During a liposuction treatment, large scores of fat cells are removed entirely from an area, leaving patients with a lower chance of regaining fat in that area for life.

Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?

Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure, although it can dramatically change the contour of the body. The best candidates are in good health and have realistic expectations. Dr. Ramirez Gavidia recommends patients to have lower body mass index for better results.  Removing fat from these problematic areas can improve your shape and appearance, but one limitation of liposuction is that it cannot improve changes in the skin such as cellulite and stretch marks. Because liposuction is not a weight loss surgery, it is not advised to undergo the procedure if you’re overweight. Patients that have excess skin and separation of the rectus muscles will need a different procedure abdominoplasty or tummy tuck.

Anyone interested in undergoing this procedure must first schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Ramirez Gavidia. During this appointment, the doctor will discuss each patient’s treatment goals, state of health, and medical history in order to decide if it is right for them.
